We are delighted to announce that Antonia Mejía Arango has joined The African Art Hub as Gallery Lead and Curator, playing a key role in the organisation’s transformation into a platform advocating for creativity and discourse from the Global South.
Antonia joins The African Art Hub at a pivotal moment in the organisation’s growth, as it continues to expand its curatorial ambitions and institutional presence under the leadership of Founder & Director, Abraham Abia. Her appointment underscores TAAH’s commitment to fostering nuanced, research-driven curatorial practices that centre voices, narratives, and artistic methodologies emerging from Southern geographies.
A multidisciplinary curator and designer, Antonia Mejía Arango’s practice explores the intersections of art, identity, and cultural production across diverse Southern contexts. With a background spanning curation, design, and visual communication, she brings a cross-cultural perspective informed by rigorous research and collaborative methodologies. Her work is characterised by a sensitivity to place, history, and material culture, as well as a strong interest in how contemporary artistic practices articulate alternative ways of seeing, belonging, and meaning-making.
In her new role as Gallery Lead and Curator, Antonia will oversee the development and execution of The African Art Hub’s curatorial programme, working closely with artists, institutions, collectors, and cultural partners. Her focus will be on strengthening artistic practices shaped by Global South perspectives, while creating spaces for dialogue that challenge dominant narratives within the global art ecosystem.
Through exhibitions, collaborations, and public-facing initiatives, she aims to broaden how Southern contexts are recognised, understood, and represented within contemporary cultural discourse. Speaking on her appointment, the gallery highlights Antonia’s ability to bridge curatorial vision with strategic leadership, bringing together exhibition-making, research, and community engagement. Her role will be central to shaping the next phase of TAAH’s programming, as the organisation continues to redefine its position as both a gallery and a cultural platform committed to long-term artist development.
